"Right off the top of my head, I am thinking about the Braves," shared the "Breaking Up Was Easy In The 90's" singer. "I grew up in Georgia, and the Braves were killing it in the mid-90s."
"There were lots of nostalgic tv shows," continues Sam. "We didn't have Netflix or YouTube, so you kind of had to watch what mom and dad were watching."
Sam reminisces about the '90s as he celebrates his newest single taking country music by storm. Young whippersnappers today don't remember a time when breaking up was easy, but in the 90s, it was. Social media was non-existent. Cordless phones were all the rage. Cell towers were a thing of the future. So, if you ran into your ex, it was purely by happenstance.
Sam's song "Breaking Up Was Easy In The 90s" talks all about the special era of time when it was easier to deal with a split, and it came together after a phone call from Sam's co-writer Josh Osborne.
"My buddy Josh Osborne called me one afternoon and said, "I have this idea. I bet breaking up was easy in the nineties," says Sam. "I was like, "Man, I love it." So fast forward several months, we did a little writing retreat outside of town. It was kind of the 9th hour in terms of the second record coming out."
"Typically, I don't know for sure if a song is going to make it on a record until it's finished, and I listen to it. But that one, I would sit write out the tracklisting, and I would put "Breaking Up Was Easy In The 90's" so I knew I had to get it right.
Sam got it right. "Breaking Up Was Easy In The 90's" is one of the final additions made to his latest album 'Southside,' available now everywhere music is heard.
