Jaelen Johnston delivered a heartfelt rendition of Lee Brice’s emotional ballad about honoring lost loved ones.
Johnston, a Team Kelsea Ballerini artist and the last country singer standing this season, performed “I Drive Your Truck” during the live semi-final episode of The Voice on Monday night (May 12). Brice released the hit single on his 2012 album, Hard 2 Love, which also included “A Woman Like You,” “Hard to Love,” “Parking Lot Party” and more.
Last night’s show featured live performances by the Top 12 artists on Teams Kelsea, Adam Levine, John Legend and Michael Bublé. Each coach had the chance to bring back one artist who was eliminated earlier in the competition, thanks to a new Super Save rule change earlier this month, NBC noted. Ballerini selected Johnston as her Super Save artist. The country singer, known for his captivating voice throughout the season, performed “I Drive Your Truck” in memory of his cousin, who died in a car accident. He was 16. Ballerini applauded Johnston's tribute to his cousin, and said he's “making country music proud already.”
Johnston’s previous performances on The Voice include powerful renditions of Tim McGraw's “If You're Reading This,” Luke Combs' “Where the Wild Things Are” and Brooks & Dunn’s “Neon Moon” (with fellow Team Kelsea artist Hailey Wright). Watch him perform “I Drive Your Truck” here:
