Avril Lavigne has announced a benefit concert to raise awareness and funds for those impacted by Lyme disease.
âIâm so excited for fans and friends from all over the world to join me and my very special guests for #FightLyme, which will benefit the Lyme community,â the âIâm With Youâ singer shared in a statement on Monday (September 21). âItâs going to be an evening to remember full of hope, great music and exciting surprises!â
Broadcasting Saturday, October 24, at 8 p.m. ET, all proceeds from tickets and merchandise bundles from Lavigneâs #FightLyme concert event will go toward the Global Lyme Alliance and The Avril Lavigne Foundation.
The one-night-only event â which includes special guests to be announced in the coming weeks â will be fansâ âonly chanceâ to see the rocker perform live in 2020. Lavigne is expected to deliver some of the greatest hits of her career, including songs from 2019âs Head Above Water, a befitting and anthemic record that signaled her comeback amid her own battle with Lyme disease.
In 2018, the Canadian superstar detailed her struggle on the song âHead Above Water.â
âI thought I was dying, and I had accepted that I was going to die,â Lavigne said at the time. âMy mom laid with me in bed and held me. I felt like I was drowning. Under my breath, I prayed âGod, please help to keep my head above the water.â In that moment, the song writing of this album began. It was like I tapped into something. It was a very spiritual experience. Lyrics flooded through me from that point on.â
