The Pearl River at Jackson is forecast to crest Sunday morning at 38 feet, ten feet above flood stage—the third-highest level in city history.By comparison, the river reached 39.58 feet in May of 1983 and 43.28 feet during the historic Easter Flood of 1979.

An estimated 500 homes and businesses could be flooded, mostly in northeast Jackson and parts of Flowood and Richland.

An evacuation order has been issued in Jackson for the affected neighborhoods. Those needing help in evacuating can call 3-1-1 for assistance. A shelter will be opened at the Jackson Police Training Academy on St. Charles Street.

Sandbags are available for pickup at 4225 Michael Avalon Street in Jackson from 8-5.

An interactive flood map is available on the MS Emergency Management Agency website showing homes that are threatened at specific river levels.
