EX-NFL PLAYER'S NEW OPPONENT

There are tens of thousands of healthcare workers fighting the coronavirus pandemic, and former NFL wide receiver Nate Hughesi s one of them.

The 35-year-old, who spent parts of five seasons in the NFL -- mostly with the Jacksonville Jaguars -- moved from the sidelines to the front line in battling the deadly virus.

Hughes retired from football, went to medical school, and is now a first-year resident at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, where he is training to be an anesthesiologist while also caring for patients with respiratory illnesses like COVID-19.

In June, Hughes will move to New Jersey to complete his three-year residency program at Rutgers University. (USA Today)
